My Weary Burdened Soul

Moon shot 2

Menacing thoughts linger like

Yesterday’s un-kept secrets,

Weighing heavily on my conscience,

Eager to penetrate my lightest moments;

An aberration of truth separating me from the

Regularities of a subservient society, unimpressed as I

Yaw, refusing to yield to the dominating social dictum.

Boldly I stride out into the unknown

Universe, shrouded within the ego’s

Rituals of never-ending discourse,

Deliberately employed by the Om’s

Essence, to narrate the story of our

Nascent.  I am but an illusion of myself.

Exasperated by the conundrum of this conjecture, I

Debrief my wavering identity with

Solicitous enquiry into the

Overwhelming evidence of my inflated ego,

Ubiquitously shrouding my experience,

Lest I forget, that which I truly am: Love.

Checking Out!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA 10965331_1004020222960523_2047494687_n IMG_0107

Let me out, Let me out, Before I scream and shout!
I didn’t sign in but now I’m checking out.

To this crazy plan, I did not agree,
So I’m passively resisting in the hope that you will see.

The wisdom of the ages has been lost while we sleep.
Now the rich get richer and for the poor I weep.

Yes, and I’m tired of all our crazy rules,
And a world that’s run by money hungry fools.

Like an alien from another place, I struggle to understand,
The order of our priorities and where our loyalties stand.

Plasma TV’s and consumer goods are the order of the day,
While the starving, lost and poor continue to stay that way.

What will our future generations think of all this muck?
I have no other choice but to get myself unstuck.

By saying no to consumerism and it’s tainted silver lining.
On home grown produce this little black duck will be dining.

From red tape and the grid, myself I wish to untie,
While from bloodied wars, the lost on their death beds lie.

So let me out, let me out, this girl is checking out,
for where we’re headed as a people leaves me in grave doubt.

Aint my problem

STARVING CHILDREN           hamburger

Went out and bought a hamburger yesterday, ………….geez it tasted good!

Not hurting anyone. Just part of the system,

doing my thing,

biding my time,

Living my life.

Little boy Akash died in Bangladesh yesterday…………..

Not my problem, can’t do anything,

from way over here.

Trucks rolled into beef feed lots today…………

Filled with fuel,

loaded with corn,

to feed those cows……………….

Hungry cows eating those grains,

70% of US corn fed to beef cattle these days.

Was told it takes 100,000 litres of water,

to make just 1,

kilo of beef.

Sadly they don’t have access to clean water,

in many places,

in Bangladesh.

Went out and washed my car yesterday……..

Drove her to the supermarket…..

To buy some cheese,

the Danish blue,

I’ve always liked.

Trucks rolled into the supermarket lot today…..

Filled with fuel,

loaded with processed goods,

like my cheese…

840 million starving people today…….

They don’t go away.

Lots of stuff made in developing countries these days….

Then taken away,….

at huge expense..

To fuel the psyche,

of a consumerised world.

Supporting a system that doesn’t work today……

Corporate agendas that can’t be sustained,

Misplaced values with money spangled eyes.

Little girl Mita died in Bangladesh today…..

Is it my problem, can I do something,

from way over here?

Went out and bought a hamburger today,……..geez it tasted sour.

Caught in the Matrix

The matrix

Sweet voices lull us into subliminal confusion

echoing forth enunciations of

must-haves for our lives.

Souls caught up in the Matrix

peddling their wares,

a thin veneer of sweet dreams

veiling the anguish of a forgotten truth.

Sickly sweet voices telling me of the

sweet dreams I’ll have if only I buy

into their socially constructed Matrix of

controlled chaos.  But I’ve filled my ears with

life’s true voice.  Tendrils of the Matrix

won’t ensnare me.

Worlds apart

worlds-apart

I’m having trouble getting through to you, and

the words you say,

make no sense to me.

I have something I need you to know,

but you’re busy polishing your gilded armour

you keep on show.

We’re worlds apart you and I,

Or so it seems today.

I speak about slashing industry,

capping the oil and

regenerating the soul.

You espouse economic growth,

fuelling the engine and

identity through consumption.

I say

get rid of money,

You say

keep the economic wheel turning.

I prefer autonomous communities,

You say every man for himself.

You’re into expansion,

I’m into reduction.

You say

the economic market has it covered,

I say

it’s covered too much.

We’re worlds apart you and I,

Or so it seems today.

Only I can see the oneness,

And the part of you that’s me.

I’m east, you’re west,

You’re north, I’m south.

A flip of the coin,

I’m here,

you’re there,

at either end of the continuum.

I have something I need you to know,

But my words bounce off your armour

like Lilliputian arrows of Gulliver.

Your words rattle in my ears,

give me a headache, and

bring me to my knees,

as you turn and walk away………

What say you old hag

old_hag

Why have you come with your bag full of mystery,

potions and stories….of times gone by and those

yet to come.

Why did you haunt my dreams, when I was young

as I hid behind the haystack that that you set alight

with your bag of tricks.

Around and around I raced, attempting to escape

your grasp, your gaze from those cold blue eyes.

Many times I had those dreams and now you are back to

haunt me once again………………………..

What are you trying to say, little girl with the

shattered heart.  Why do you sit shrinking

from your own light.

The world is waiting for you stand and rise

to your true glory.

What is the story you tell yourself that has left

you lying in pieces, on the floor.

Stand up, rise up and face the hag

That is you.  It was always you.

You from the future, you from the past….

Coming to share the wisdom of the ages..

So that you, the one now broken and scarred

might go forward and create

A spark…. So that you might

Be the spark… that caused the

Fire.. the fire that crackled and burned away all the

Hatred in the world.. that engulfed and consumed

Judgement .. with its heat and love.

A love so bright and glorious that none

Could ignore it.. and all would be

Consumed by it.

Rise up little girl with the shattered heart and

Embrace the wise old hag that is you.

From the Wild

Wild bear

I was born a wild bear, eagle, mountain lion                                                                               Roaming, soaring, growling.

I was born a wild woman                                                                                                                Calling, seeking, knowing.

I was born a gentle child                                                                                                              Inquisitive, challenging, daring.

But you were intimidated                                                                                                                  By my wild nature.

You sought to capture, contain and control me.                                                                           You set up industries utilizing my wildness.

I was chained, cajoled and indoctrinated,                                                                                      Enclosed in cement block rooms,

Separated from my own true nature,                                                                                              Scolded and beaten into forgetting.

Forgetting my origins, forgetting my connections,                                                                  Forgetting myself.

Pacing back and forth with bloodied feet                                                                                       and broken spirit.

The framework of our society                                                                                                           was built on the backs of forgotten selves.

Now the time for remembering has begun.                                                                                   The time for wild bears to roam free.

For eagles to soar high and children to                                                                               Connect with their true self.

It is time for free willed beings                                                                                                         To claim the birthright of the cosmos.

White Elephant in the room

elephant image

In the world of knowledge knowers

the white elephant in the room

is breaking delicate tea cups.

As we discuss his many cumbersome features,

it’s hard to miss the glare emanating

from his wrinkled white hide.

And his trumpeting for progress

resounds in all our ears.

While looking for distractions

we hear of his feet sinking into depleted soils,

and his mouth churning through natural fauna

while his trunk sucks water from sullied pools,

spraying into the pockets of his misguided trainers.

Then charging into the last remaining green pastures

he leaves behind his deeply embedded footprint.

In round table discussions between knowledge knowers

we recount the events of this stampeding white elephant

running amuck in our delicate china shop,

yet seem ill affected by the discord that lay at our feet.

As this contemporary demigod

threatens to smash the glass table

we have placed it on –

in the world of knowledge knowers

we snatch our cups from the table and

continue to drink tea.

After all, the white elephant in the room

is breaking someone else’s tea cups.

Out of the hologram of modernity.

earth

I have just recently finished reading the book entitled “Dear hunting with Jesus” by Joe Bageant – a book about the poor working class in America and what informs their values and beliefs.  A very interesting read, highlighting the power of culture to shape and control our lives.  However, I have to say that at the end of reading the book I was left feeling somewhat hopeless and despairing at where we as humans are in the world right now, and wondering what on Earth any of us can do to create change for the better, when so many of us are blinded by the hologram of modernity.

Then today I started reading Earth Time by David Suzuki, written 20 years ago in 1998.  In the introduction David speaks about how humankind initially lived in harmony with the earth – “deeply embedded in the natural world, completely dependent on intact Nature, whose abundance provided all that we needed for survival”.  It has only been in the last 0.1% of our existence here on earth, with the advent of agriculture and an accompanied explosion in population, technology and consumption that we have set ourselves apart from Nature and unwittingly created a scenario for our own self destruction, along with many other species on the planet.  We have created a global ecological crisis – and I’m not just talking about ‘climate change’ here.  I’m talking about the decimation of rainforests and many other unique ecosystems, leading to the extinction of many life-forms on this planet; the breakdown in the ozone layer; oceans filled with plastic that is killing many ocean creatures; toxins in the air, soil and water; and the list goes on and on.  But that is only part of the story.  The other part of the story is that many people are suffering due to poverty and inequality, rising chronic health conditions, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions, alienation, economic pressures, and the lure of success – whatever that may be.  In short humanity seems to be afflicted with a kind of restless melancholy that we try and abate by dutifully fulfilling our role as good consumers.

What astounds and frustrates me the most with all of this, is that many writers from varying backgrounds have been writing and speaking about the dysfunctionality of our current global economic system and its underpinning values for quite some time now.   Yet humanity seems to be currently swinging further to the right with its values and ideals of social hierarchy, economic expansion, individual efforts, competition, and protestant work ethics.  Why is this happening when the evidence that these ideas are no longer serving us, is so clear before us?  Or is it?  Perhaps so many of us are caught up with the preoccupation of earning a dollar so that we can eke out a living, or lavishly compete with the Jones’s, that when we flop onto our couches from sheer physical or mental exhaustion at the end of the day and mindlessly soak in the latest stream of drama, either via the waves or self created in our own minds, there is little or no time to contemplate whether humanity is heading in the right direction or not.  However, as David Suzuki writes, it is time for us to face up to the uncomfortable fact that we are destroying the planet that sustains us and ourselves in the process.

Last night a young man I work with told me that he didn’t want to be here (on earth) anymore, and that he just didn’t understand people or life.  Unfortunately he is not the only young , or older, person who feels like that.  Many of us are left hanging on the edges, either economically or psychologically, wondering what the hell this ride is all about.  It seems that we have lost our connection to Nature, each other and Ourselves, and don’t know how to get it back.  As Daniel Hillel from Out Of The Earth wrote, “the clever are adept at extricating themselves from situations that the wise would have avoided from the outset.  Unfortunately, our cleverness as a species has gotten us into a situation from which the same faculty can no longer free us.  Cleverness has its limit.  Wisdom is now needed”.   So where can we look for this Wisdom?  Some might say, in the quiet and still space of our inner-self.  Others might say that Nature itself can provide the answers we are looking for.  I believe we can find wisdom and peace when we connect deeply with ourselves and nature.  However, our ever noisy mind often has difficulty in discerning the true voice of our inner-self from that of our culturally conditioned voice.  So how can we resolve the many issues of our times?  I believe it is up to all of us to take stock of these issues and not just sit back and wait for our governments to do something.  Our governments are running on those outdated ideas of ever increasing economic growth, individualism, nationalism, competition, and increasing consumption of diminishing resources.  It seems that if these ideas have brought us to this precarious space then it is time for some new ideas and ways of being on this planet.  I believe that it is up to those of us who have been able to see beyond the hologram of modernity, and therefore have the capacity to vision another way, to take on this challenge.  As the adage goes, “those who can, should”.   If others are bound and blinded by the hologram, then shouldn’t it be up to those who aren’t to set them free?

And so my invitation is, if this blog resonates with you and you wish to see change for the better on this planet, will you join me in seeking out and contributing new ideas, thus creating an alternative voice to our current dominating voice of “ever increasing economic growth”?  If so, I would love to read your comments and ideas.  Let’s have a conversation and see where it leads us.
