Love never dies

Friend

you are not

yourself today,

though questioning

brown eyes

tell me of who

you were.

Rippling laugh,

a purse of the lips,

tell tale signs

of a bold and

sassy woman.  Your hand

reaches out to mine

grasping for life.  People come

and go,

you question

who they are.

Looking into my eyes, you ask

can I hear the voices, and tell me

I mustn’t lie, for they need help

coming through.  You sing a song –

‘Kings never Die’,

want us

to join in

with actions, and we all must

play the game.

I sneak away,

family say

it’s best,

not knowing if I will see

you again.  I didn’t know then,

I’d taken a part of you

with me.

I’m out walking

and you are with me.

‘Kings never Die’

plays in my head and

rises up into my voice box.  I feel

your kiss in the cool evening breeze, and

a smear of your lipstick

blends with fading blue.

Life is surreal, like sand

slipping through fingers,

grasping at grains – we mustn’t,

lest we disturb

the flow.  You see

love never dies,

but we all must

play the game.
